Series 1 of record group 81-118 consists of subject files of the Environmental Review Division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for the years 1967-75. Created in the mid-1960's (under Jack Bails) in response to environmental concerns of the day, its purpose was to write and review environmental impact statements connected with government projects. In the mid-1970's, it was merged with the Office of Project and Program Review, which in 1977, was merged with the Environmental Enforcement Division. The series contains correspondence, reports, studies and other documents.
